Hatsune Miku x Traditional Crafts' "Hatsune Kobo", "Koi seyo Kimono Otome", and Taiwan-based brand "JUST IN XX" Gather! "Tokyo Kimono Show 2026" Announces New Cultural Content

The General Incorporated Association Kimono no Mirai Kyogikai and the Tokyo Kimono Show 2026 Executive Committee (Location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Kotaro Nakano) are pleased to announce new noteworthy content for the "Tokyo Kimono Show 2026," to be held for three days from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the vicinity of Nihonbashi Ningyocho Wholesaler District.

This event is one of Japan's largest kimono events, showcasing the appeal of kimono and Japanese culture from multiple perspectives: "wearing, seeing, and experiencing." In 2025, a total of approximately 15,000 people attended.

For its 9th iteration, with the theme "New Return to Japan – Kimonos Handed Down," the event will present new expressions that connect tradition, the present, and the future.

The newly announced contents will all be part of the "Kimono Style Exhibition" held on the 2nd floor of Sunrise Building.

Featured Content ① Popular Manga "Koi seyo Kimono Otome" x Kyo-Yuzen Collaboration Exhibition With the cooperation of the Kyoto Dyeing and Weaving Art Association, a collaborative exhibition with the popular manga "Koi seyo Kimono Otome" will be held. This new endeavor allows visitors to experience kimono as a "story" through an exhibition that fuses the kimonos appearing in the work with the world of the original drawings. By intersecting Kyo-Yuzen, a traditional craft, with contemporary storytelling culture, the charm of kimono will be conveyed from an unprecedented perspective.

Featured Content ② "Triumphant Return" from Taiwan – Global Brand "JUST IN XX" Participates Following the Tokyo Kimono Show held in Taiwan in December 2025, the Taiwan-based fashion brand "JUST IN XX," active internationally, will participate. The brand will exhibit works it created and displayed in Taiwan. By participating, this brand, which has gained international attention for its unique expression fusing traditional attire and modern fashion, will expand the venue for cultural exchange beyond Japan and present new possibilities for kimono culture.

Featured Content ③ Young Artisans Challenge New Expressions of Traditional Craft "Amami Oshima Tsumugi" From the works of the younger generation by the Authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi Cooperative Association, exhibits will include Hakudaijima "Moon and Sun," 12-maruki "Mosaic," and Space Invaders designs. Through ambitious works that inherit traditional techniques while incorporating modern sensibilities, the exhibition will present a new form of traditional craft that connects to the next generation.

Featured Content ④ "Hatsune Kobo" Project Exhibition: Fusion of Digital and Craft From the works of the "Hatsune Kobo" project, for which Hatsune Miku serves as the official ambassador, four furisode coordinations will be announced, including three coordinations that were also exhibited at the Taiwan event in December 2025. This will present new possibilities for manufacturing that spans digital and traditional crafts, and a new gateway to kimono culture for younger generations and international audiences.

A Circulatory Event Spanning the Nihonbashi Area This event will be held simultaneously across five main venues and 23 satellite venues, centered around the Nihonbashi Ningyocho Wholesaler District. Through a variety of content, including the "Kimono Style Exhibition" showcasing approximately 150 kimonos, talk shows, fashion shows, a "Wa Marche" featuring over 160 brands, and workshops, visitors can experience kimono culture in a multifaceted way. Furthermore, as a circulatory event that can be enjoyed while exploring the town, it will also be developed in conjunction with the local culture of Nihonbashi.

Towards an Era of "Freely Enjoying" Kimono Culture Kimono culture is currently at a turning point due to a decrease in practitioners and changes in lifestyle. The Tokyo Kimono Show aims not only to preserve tradition but also to fuse it with modern sensibilities, re-presenting kimono as a culture that can be enjoyed more freely and passing it on to the next generation.
