Tonichi Printing Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsuaki Nishikawa; hereinafter 'TONICHI') will begin remote production support for the education page 'Mimichan Press' published by The Shin Nihonkai Shimbun Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture; President: Toru Yoshioka) starting from the May 24 issue. This brings the number of regional newspapers receiving regular production support from TONICHI to five.
'Mimichan Press' is typically a four-page weekly edition (two pages before a non-publication day). Featuring the newspaper's mascot, 'Mimichan,' the page publishes science articles answering "why?" questions, English news, and comics. It is highly regarded by both children and adults for presenting news in an easy-to-understand format.
TONICHI’s editorial production department directors and editors have been working online with the "Mimichan Press" team since the initial phase to manage the page production.
Launched in April 2025 in partnership with Kyodo News, the paper production support service involves TONICHI remotely connecting to regional newspapers' typesetting systems. This initiative is part of the "TONICHI Media Gate" project, which is positioned as a "door to the future of media."
As a core enterprise of the Mainichi Shimbun Group, TONICHI has a proven track record of producing numerous media outlets, including evening papers, specialized papers, municipal public relations papers, and university newsletters. The company intends to continue supporting the production of regional and local newspapers, strengthening its efforts to "protect newspaper culture."
