By changing the roofing material, thermal insulation and waterproofing performance have been enhanced. Background on the Launch of Yamato Kogyo's 'Goemon-buro' and 'Cast Iron Enamel Bathtubs'

Since its founding in 2020, totonou has focused on selling sauna products such as barrel saunas and cabin saunas, delivering over 1,200 Nordic saunas to customers across Japan.

Initially, saunas were primarily installed in public bath facilities and accommodations. However, recently, installations in private homes—especially standalone houses—have been increasing. Many customers now seek to enhance the overall quality of their sauna experience, including sauna, cold plunge, and outdoor cooling. This has led to growing demand for high-quality cold plunge tubs.

Previously, totonou arranged Yamato Kogyo's bathtubs on a case-by-case basis upon customer request. In response to rising demand, the company began evaluating the inclusion of cold plunge tubs as a regular product line. From the same perspective of 'high quality, high design, high durability' that totonou values in its Nordic sauna products, the company compared bathtubs from multiple manufacturers in Nordic countries, China, and Japan.

The cold plunge tubs now launched consist of two types—'Goemon-buro' and 'Cast Iron Enamel Bathtub'—totaling five products. Crafted by artisans from Yamato Kogyo, established 195 years ago, these bathtubs excel in heat retention and durability.

Goemon-buro

The Goemon-buro is available in two shapes: oblong and round. Both are available only in black.

Made of cast iron, this product features gentle heat conduction. Deeper than standard bathtubs, it allows full-body immersion up to the shoulders, enabling users to experience soft warmth and smooth water temperature throughout their body.

Despite its depth, the compact size is another advantage. Lightweight enough to be carried by two people, it ensures easy transportation and installation, making it ideal for Japanese residential environments.

Oblong and Round Models

Cast Iron Enamel Bathtub

The Cast Iron Enamel Bathtub is an oval-shaped tub available in three colors: white, black, and gray.

The greatest appeal of this product lies in its high abrasion and corrosion resistance due to 'enamel coating'.

Enamel coating is a technique that fuses a glass-like substance onto a metal surface. A glass layer bonds tightly to a 5mm-thick cast iron base through a chemical reaction, making it highly resistant to peeling and scratching—even coins cannot damage it. Years of research have enhanced its alkali and acid resistance, ensuring long-lasting luster under normal use.

Additionally, the smooth surface from enamel coating makes cleaning easier, helping maintain a hygienic condition.

Renewal of Barrel Sauna 2.2m and 3.0m Models

As part of a comprehensive product lineup review, totonou has renewed its 2.2m and 3.0m barrel sauna models.

Nordic Barrel Sauna 2.2m and 3.0m

Like the previously renewed 1.2m and 1.8m models, these use premium-grade Nordic thermo pine wood treated with thermal modification. Maintaining the traditional 40mm thickness, they are built to withstand even the harshest Nordic winters.

Nordic Barrel Sauna 3.0m

The roof now uses EPDM (ethylene propylene rubber) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride), both known for excellent outdoor durability, achieving robust dual-layer thermal insulation and waterproofing. A simpler construction compared to previous models enables faster installation and reduced costs.

Moreover, magnetic door closures have been adopted to enhance safety.

Nordic Barrel Sauna 2.2m

Moving forward, totonou will continue collaborating with Auroom, a leading Nordic sauna manufacturer, to update its products and deliver Nordic barrel saunas optimized for Japan's climate and housing environments.
