Toyokumo's OSS Developer Support Program 'Thanks OSS Award' Selects 7 New Developers for 2026 H1, Cumulative Support Reaches Approximately $280,000

Toyokumo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuji Yamamoto; hereinafter Toyokumo), which provides easy-to-use cloud services for businesses, has determined the recipients of the 'Thanks OSS Award' program for the first half of 2026 (January to June). This time, support totaling $31,090 was provided to 11 individuals and 1 organization, bringing the cumulative total since the program's inception in 2022 to $282,317 (approximately 45 million yen*1).

Many of the OSS that are essential technical infrastructure for SaaS depend on individual unpaid development, leading to issues such as maintenance dependencies and lack of funding. Toyokumo continuously provides funding on the scale of 10 million yen per year to support OSS developers in continuing their work.

About Thanks OSS Award

Use of OSS is indispensable in software development including SaaS. However, many OSS are developed and maintained by individual volunteers, and the increase in support requests with growing usage can become a barrier to continued development. Considering the dependence of product development on OSS technology, Toyokumo continuously provides financial support on the scale of 10 million yen per year, equivalent to an annual salary of one software engineer.

From the first half of 2026, the following 7 individuals were selected as new recipients of the 'Thanks OSS Award'. Selection was based on discussions of contribution and potential, focusing on libraries/tools used in the company's product development or those the company wishes to use.

Mickaël Schoentgen (Mr.) Watchdog Python library for monitoring file system events. Serves as a foundation for many development tools.

Toyokumo uses Clojure for its backend development. In addition to the individual developers above, funding will continue to be provided to 'Clojurists Together', a support organization for the Clojure community.
