TTNE Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Dai Matsuo), a sauna creative group, is pleased to announce that its "Totono-e Oyakata" (Dai Matsuo) has produced the sauna for "TOTOPA Hakata Ekimae Store" (Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City), which will open on August 7, 2026 (Fri). This is the second location, following the "TOTOPA Toritsu Meiji Koen Store," which won first place in SAUNACHELIN (Sauna Michelin).

For the development of the sauna at "TOTOPA Hakata Ekimae Store," TTNE focused on "the overwhelming vitality and healing power of wood itself." This time, we attempted an unprecedentedly luxurious approach: using a single, massive, large-diameter tree from Alaska, Western Red Cedar, in its entirety.

・Savor the Tree with All Five Senses

In the center of the sauna room, the "trunk" of the cut large-diameter tree is luxuriously placed as a symbolic tree. Furthermore, by wrapping the bark around the stove, guests are enveloped in a rich woody aroma and visual impact the moment they step inside.

・Maximizing the Potential of Each Part

The "heartwood" of the tree is used for a dynamic single-board bench and decorative objects for the ceiling, while the "sapwood and scraps" are used for the walls and fixtures. By incorporating the entirety of a single tree into the space, we have created an otherworldly sense of immersion, as if steaming within a giant tree in the great outdoors.

Luxurious use of Western Red Cedar

This is literally "a sauna to savor trees," with the trunk cut from a large-diameter tree placed in the center of the space. The bark is wrapped around the stove, and the entire tree resides within this sauna room. A custom wooden sauna mat is also placed at the entrance of the sauna room, with each item meticulously crafted to elevate the sauna experience.

Birth of a Full-Fledged Women's Sauna

In Fukuoka and Hakata, we are innovating the design of the women's area to ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, can enjoy a full-fledged sauna experience.

In Fukuoka, where there are still few authentic saunas for women, the women's area features a "Western Red Cedar Single-Board Sauna" of the same quality as the men's area.

It is characterized by the beautiful contrast created by the texture of the wood and the resin.

The bathing area, enveloped in Tajimi tiles and soft lighting, has been finished into a comfortable and sophisticated space that overturns the conventional image of a sauna. Tile art depicting poppies by artist KYNE adorns the walls, offering a supreme healing time to relax the mind and body in a spacious bathtub.

As one explores saunas, one inevitably arrives at the world of wood. Among them, Western Red Cedar holds a special place for me. If asked, "What sauna would you want to enter for the rest of your life?" I would answer without hesitation, a Western Red Cedar sauna. I love this wood so much. Its pinkish hue, its slightly sweet aroma like wine from a wooden barrel—in my heart, I call it the "Queen of Saunas."

What we used this time was a large-diameter tree from Alaska, 800-1000 years old, with a trunk diameter of 1.37 meters. We used that single tree completely, without any waste. There might not be a more luxuriously extravagant sauna anywhere in the world.

I wanted to create a sauna that would last for hundreds of years... and in doing so, I ended up creating my "sauna for the rest of my life."

I wonder how amazing the forest must have been where such a tree grew.

I hope you will savor the tree with your whole body and imagine the forests of Alaska.

"TOTOPA Hakata Ekimae Store" will implement a limited-time reservation system for the first 10 days after opening, from August 7, 2026 (Fri) to August 16, 2026 (Sun), to alleviate congestion.
