We hereby announce the name and expected opening date of the smart interchange (smart IC) connecting to Miki Service Area (SA) on the E2 Sanyo Expressway, a joint project between Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, and NEXCO West Japan Kansai Branch (Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture; Branch Manager: Masakazu Moritomi).

2. Rationale for the Name

This smart IC connects directly to the service area. To clearly indicate that it serves as an access point to the SA, the name 'Miki'—matching the name of the connected SA—has been adopted for the smart interchange.

3. Process Leading to the Name Decision

The name was proposed following discussions by the '(Provisional) Miki Smart Interchange Regional Council,' composed of Miki City and other local stakeholders. The proposal incorporated feedback from the Hyogo Prefecture Road Sign Standardization Committee, comprising regional road authorities, and was formally approved through procedures administered by the Independent Administrative Institution Japan Highway Public Corporation.
