[JR Central's First Introduction] Prevents Stains and Odors in Station Toilets with Water Alone. Nano-bubble Generator Nozzle "UFB DUAL®" Achieves Improved Hygiene and Reduced Cleaning Burden at Owari-Ichinomiya Station

Water Design World Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sumida-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Yu Matsuo) installed the nano-bubble generator nozzle "UFB DUAL®" in May 2026 as part of efforts to improve the toilet environment at Owari-Ichinomiya Station (Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture) operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central).

This marks the second implementation in a railway station, following its full-scale adoption in JR Kyushu's station toilet beautification project.

Background of Introduction

In October 2024, our company conducted a trial introduction of UFB DUAL® at JR Kyushu's Minami-Kurume Station and Hizen-Fumoto Station, where its effectiveness in removing urinary scale and suppressing odors was confirmed. Following this, as standard equipment for the "Love Toilet Project (HEARTFUL JR KYUSHU)" promoted by JR Kyushu, full-scale adoption was completed by January 2026 at Minami-Fukuoka Station, Onojo Station, Kyudai-Gakken Toshi Station, and Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, with further installations proceeding sequentially.

Based on these implementation results with other railway operators and joint verification with JR East, JR Central has adopted the system for Owari-Ichinomiya Station, a major station on the Tokaido Main Line, to continuously improve its toilet environment.

About the Station of Introduction - Owari-Ichinomiya Station (Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture)

A major station on the Tokaido Main Line, serving as a regional transportation hub connected to Meitetsu Ichinomiya Station.

With an average daily boarding population of approximately 25,000, it is a station used by a mix of business, commuter, and tourist travelers.

For station toilets with high user traffic, maintaining a consistently high level of hygiene is a critical issue directly linked to the station's image and customer satisfaction.

Installation Specifications - Installation on the Water Supply Main Pipe

In this introduction, UFB DUAL® was installed on the water supply pipes supplying water to each fixture in the station toilets.

This configuration allows water containing nano-bubbles (fine bubbles less than 1μm) to be used at all water supply points within the toilet, including all urinals, toilets, washbasins, and cleaning faucets.

Compared to individual installation at each fixture, this method offers advantages in terms of workability, maintainability, and cost.

Overview of UFB DUAL®

UFB DUAL® is a Japanese technology that transforms tap water used throughout a building into nano-bubble water simply by attaching it to the water supply pipe.

Utilizing a patented high-efficiency cavitation method, the reduction in water pressure and flow rate is suppressed to less than 4% (Patent No. 6182715).

It requires no electricity, chemicals, or cartridges, and there is no need for regular replacement of consumables.

Made with lead-free free-cutting brass and certified by a third-party organization for water supply fixtures, it is a specification that can be safely introduced into water supply facilities.

Expected Effects

Peeling and Prevention of Urinary Scale and Stains: Joint verification with JR East confirmed the peeling of urinary scale that had been adhered for 35 years.

Odor Suppression: By suppressing the formation of biofilms within water pipes, a reduction in odor sources is expected.

Efficiency Improvement in Cleaning Operations: Water alone makes it easier to remove dirt, contributing to a reduction in detergent usage and cleaning frequency.

Maintenance of Piping and Drainage Systems: Prevention of drainage problems is expected due to the suppression of scale and oil accumulation.

Future Outlook

We will continue to promote the introduction of UFB DUAL® for improving hygiene in water areas used by unspecified numbers of people, such as in railways, expressways, commercial facilities, and public facilities.

We will continue to work with a view to expanding to other stations and other railway operators.
