The Japanese Standards Association (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroshi Asahi) jointly operates the Circular Economy Standardization Platform (CESP) with the Industrial Environmental Management Association. We are currently holding a relay lecture series on case studies and standardization trends in various fields of the circular economy. Archive streaming services for past sessions are also available for a fee.
What is the Circular Economy?
It is a system that circulates resources without discarding them, balancing the environment and the economy. According to the definition in ISO 59004:2024, it is "an economic system that, using a systemic approach, maintains the circular flow of resources and recovers, retains, or adds value to them, thereby contributing to sustainable development."
Purpose and Overview
The Circular Economy Standardization Platform (CESP) holds relay lecture series with the aim of sharing cross-sectoral information, exchanging opinions, and discussing response policies regarding trends in national regulations, international standards, and forum standards.
The 7th session will focus on "CE Response and Standardization in the Chemical Field," covering topics such as ISO standardization trends related to the resource circulation of plastics, standardization within ISO/TC 61 (Plastics), trends in JIS and ISO standardization of environmental design guidelines for textile products, standardization efforts in the chemical fiber industry centered on CE, and the Japan Chemical Industry Association's (JCIA) international standardization activities and initiatives in chemical recycling.
