HAY's highly anticipated new outdoor collection has arrived. We are pleased to announce the 'DEVILLE COLLECTION,' a contemporary reinterpretation of classic bistro sets by French designer Julien Renault, and the 'Palissade Cantilever,' a new addition to the popular 'PALISSADE COLLECTION' by Ronan Bouroullec.

Sales will commence on Friday, June 19, 2026, at HAY TOKYO, HAY OSAKA, and HAY ONLINE STORE.

DEVILLE COLLECTION BY JULIEN RENAULT

The DEVILLE COLLECTION draws inspiration from the spirit and aesthetics of iconic Thonet chairs from the 1920s, which Renault encountered in restaurants in his hometown of Brussels. Characterized by generous proportions and softly curved frames, it balances durability with an open and inviting presence, encouraging sitting, spending time, and enjoying outdoor moments.

The stackable chairs and armchairs are available in a wide range of colors. We offer two types of compact tilt-top tables: round and square. The tilting tops make them easy to move and store, allowing for flexible use even in limited spaces.

This collection uses over 60% post-consumer recycled aluminum and combines multiple manufacturing processes, including casting and bending. "Similar to the wooden chairs that inspired it, DEVILLE is constructed by assembling multiple parts with screws," explains Renault. It is corrosion-resistant and durable for long-term use, yet can be easily moved and repositioned in any space, from home gardens to restaurant terraces.

The collection's name is derived from the French chemist Henri Étienne Sainte-Claire Deville, who first established methods for industrial-scale aluminum production. Renault also notes another meaning of the name: "In French, 'Deville' also sounds like 'de ville,' which means 'from the city' or 'for the city.'"

This suggests a subtle homage to the urban landscapes that served as the design's starting point.

Common to all is a sense of floating lightness, with a frame that creates a gentle elasticity and comfortable seating experience due to its slightly yielding structure.
