Testing 'Mobile 4K Live Broadcasting' with LMS and 5G mmWave: Public Field Trial at WTP2026

WOWOW provides 'LIVE MULTI STUDIO (LMS),' a software for video, audio, and control signal transmission co-developed with TBS Television, to support a public field trial of 4K low-latency live broadcasting using 5G mmWave at the WTP2026 XGMF booth, organized by the XGMF 'Oshikatsu x 5G (mmWave/Local 5G) Project.'

This project is conducted as an XGMF Tech Session initiative under the commercial 5G mmWave environments of SoftBank Corp. and KDDI Corp. to further expand the potential of LMS.

As an experimental attempt to verify the possibilities of new video experiences at events and stadiums, this trial utilizes the high-capacity uplink of 5G mmWave to see how far 'ultra-high-quality live broadcasting while on the move' can be achieved in a real exhibition environment. It presents a next-generation broadcasting solution that completes professional-grade streaming, which previously required wired connections or large-scale equipment, solely through mobile networks.

This project is also conducted in collaboration with the 'The Power of Millimeter Wave' series in Monthly Telecommunications / BUSINESS NETWORK by Ric Telecom Co., Ltd.

Roles are assigned as follows:

Planning and Verification: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

Network and Verification: SoftBank Corp. and KDDI Corp.

Video Transmission: WOWOW Entertainment, Inc.

Coordination: Ric Telecom Co., Ltd.

They will also verify how much low-latency 4K live streaming can be achieved using LMS.

WOWOW Entertainment plans to introduce the mechanisms and features of LMS for 4K low-latency live streaming on the day.

On the day, in addition to demonstrations where visitors can experience the real-time nature of 4K live streaming and differences based on network environments, an experience where visitors themselves hold the transmission equipment and move around is also planned.

This project is positioned not as an introduction of a completed service, but as a step toward verifying future use case creation.

It is being conducted as a space to explore with attendees 'what kind of experiences have value.'
