Born in 1978 in Chiba Prefecture, Matsui is a living legend in the Japanese tennis world who continues to compete globally at age 48. He has a unique background, moving to Canada alone at 16, attending college in Hawaii, and then turning professional. He is a right-handed player known for an aggressive one-handed backhand style.
