About 'Hamamatsu Jazz Week' As one of the city-building projects centered on music promoted by Hamamatsu City, 'Hamamatsu Jazz Week,' which started in 1992, has reached its 34th year this year with the support and cooperation of many people. Aiming to have 'music in the town and music creating the town,' this unique regional cultural event, which is planned and operated with public and private cooperation with 'jazz,' which can be enjoyed regardless of generation, as a theme, has been loved not only by Hamamatsu citizens but also by many fans for a long time.
This year, we will also hold the popular 'Family Jazz Concert' in a two-part structure of morning and afternoon, which was well-received last year. We have planned a program that can be enjoyed by parents and children from 0 years old and a collection of jazz classics for adults. In addition, we have prepared programs such as concerts where you can enjoy famous Western songs in jazz arrangements and 'Outreach Jazz Concerts' where musicians visit elementary schools in the city to make music and jazz feel close and enjoyable for many people. Furthermore, as a project closely related to the region, we will also develop stages of exchange with the 'Yaramaika Music Festival in Hamamatsu,' which has the slogan 'Music Festival created, enjoyed, and played by citizens,' collaborations with 'Okohama Marche,' which promotes the intermediate mountainous area 'Okohama' of Hamamatsu City, and concerts held at the Hamamatsu City Hall, a familiar public space.
In addition, to satisfy serious jazz fans, we will hold talk events and performance programs commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of jazz giants Miles Davis, who rewrote the history of jazz, and John Coltrane, an explorer of modern jazz, and other elaborate programs.
Furthermore, to create a sense of unity throughout the city, we will expand the scale of various related events and collaboration projects to further enhance the momentum. Starting with the 'Jazz Culture Lecture' (Create Hamamatsu) on July 17 (Fri), three months before the event, we have prepared a variety of contents such as 'NEOPASA Hamamatsu Jazz Concert' (New Tomei NEOPASA Hamamatsu (up)), 'Hamamatsu Jazz Week Cheering Project' (Ion Mall Hamamatsu Shinano), 'Science Show x Jazz' (Hamamatsu Science Museum), 'Student Jazz Stage in GINZA' (Yamaha Ginza Store), and 'An Evening of Jazz, Gourmet Food, and Wine' (Yamaha Resort Katsuragi Kita no Maru). Related events will continue until the 'Jazz Concert at Haru no Sangyo Matsuri' (Haru no Fureai Park) on November 14 (Sat) and 15 (Sun), after the event period, and will conclude with a sense of lingering heat and expectations for next year.
On the final day, 'Yamaha Jazz Festival,' which realizes 'Here is the only place where you can meet,' top artists from Japan and abroad with rich variations will appear. Part 1 will feature the quartet of saxophonist Terakubo Elena, who leads the new era of jazz with overwhelming technique and passionate performance. In Part 2, Kei, known as the Pink Lady, Masuda Keiko, will make her first appearance at the 'Yamaha Jazz Festival' with her unchanging voice and overwhelming career. Part 3 will feature an orchestra led by jazz pianist Moriya Junko, who continues to explore new possibilities for jazz with meticulous ensemble and dynamic performance, and TOKU, who is attracting attention with a wide range of musicality beyond the framework of jazz as a representative vocalist and flugelhorn player in Japan, and will achieve a collaboration.
For 9 days, we will fully deliver a variety of events that represent the 'popularity, artistry, and diversity' of jazz. Please look forward to the Hamamatsu Jazz Week where you can enjoy jazz regardless of generation!
