Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Yaqumo Inc. Sign Letter of Intent for Strategic Collaboration in Quantum Technology

Yaqumo Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; Kazuhiro Nakakoji, Representative Director & CEO; hereinafter "Yaqumo") is pleased to announce the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bengaluru, India) to establish a strategic partnership in the field of quantum technology.

This LOI aligns with the ongoing cooperation in quantum technology between Japan and India, including the "Letter of Intent on Quantum Science, Technology and Innovation" signed on May 4, 2026, between the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Republic of India.

Furthermore, this initiative is consistent with the research and development collaboration goals for advanced technologies—including quantum computing—outlined in the "India-Japan Digital Partnership 2.0" established between Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Under this collaboration, both parties will explore joint R&D and industrialization opportunities across a broad spectrum of areas, including quantum hardware, photonics and optical control technologies, quantum system engineering, and quantum software and applications. Additionally, discussions will proceed regarding the research, verification, and demonstration of Yaqumo’s quantum systems and related hardware, with a view toward future industrial applications in India.

This partnership also aligns with the critical role IISc plays in quantum science research and ecosystem formation under India's National Quantum Mission (NQM). It aims to accelerate research, development, industrialization, and eventual social implementation of quantum technology in both Japan and India.
