Yomiuri Travel Co., Ltd. (President: Hidenori Iwakami) has announced that its 100% subsidiary, Yomiuri Travel Publishing Co., Ltd. (President: Tatsuya Tsutsumi), will launch the 'Sakudoin' campaign in collaboration with the Chubu Cable Transport Association (Chairman: Toshiyuki Kawai) starting July 16, aiming to promote the use of ropeways and lifts.

Sakudoin (Sakudou-in)

The 'Sakudoin' comes in both paper and digital versions, each featuring original designs from participating operators. Users can collect these as mementos of their rides. A dedicated 'Sakudoincho' stamp book, where paper 'Sakudoin' stamps can be affixed, will be sold at ticket shops and outlets of participating ropeway operators. The digital version is available as an NFT (non-fungible token). Users can register for free on the web app 'Tetsuincho Digital' and purchase the digital stamps by scanning QR codes displayed on posters at the sites using their smartphones.

What is a 'Sakudou'?

A 'Sakudou' refers to a transportation system that moves passengers by suspending cars from wire ropes (cables) strung through the air, distinct from 'railways' or 'cable cars' that run on metal rails.

The first phase, launching on July 16, will begin sales of 'Sakudoin' and 'Sakudoincho' primarily at ropeway operators in the Chubu region, including Shizuoka, Gifu, and Mie Prefectures (see list below). The project is endorsed by the Japan Cable Transport Association (Chairman: Shigeyuki Togashi), a general foundation, and plans to gradually expand participation to operators nationwide.

Since July 2020, Yomiuri Travel Publishing has been selling the 'Tetsuincho,' often described as the 'railway version of a shrine stamp book,' promoting railway usage and revitalizing local communities along railway lines. In April this year, the company also launched the 'Japanese Whisky Passport Copper Stamp Book' project, showcasing the global appeal of Japanese whisky and proposing a uniquely Japanese whisky tourism experience. The 'Sakudoin' project leverages this expertise, realized through collaboration with ropeway and lift operators that provide easy access to Japan's most scenic destinations.
