Creek & River Co. will host a free online seminar titled 'Color Psychology for Creators Vol.2: Mastering 'Blue' – Refreshing on the Surface, Deeply Complex Within' on Monday, August 10, targeting professionals working as designers in web, video, gaming, advertising, publishing, fashion, and interior design.
Color selection is a crucial aspect of design. When receiving color direction from clients or directors, we often interpret colors solely through positive associations—such as 'red = passion' or 'blue = trust.' However, every color carries both positive and negative connotations, and overuse or underuse can introduce new negative perceptions. To help creators use color more deeply and accurately, Creek & River has invited Shigeru Shimada, a practicing colorist and instructor, to lead this seminar on color psychology.
The theme of this second session is 'blue'—a color highly resonant with the summer season. While commonly associated with 'refreshing,' 'trustworthy,' and 'calm,' blue can also be perceived as 'cold' or 'distant' when too strong, or 'forgettable' and 'too safe' when too weak. Building on the 'over-negative' and 'under-negative' framework introduced in the first session, this seminar will teach participants to view blue not simply as 'good' or 'bad,' but as a color with a wide range of impression shifts. The goal is to move beyond instinctive choices like 'blue feels safe' toward intentional, strategic use of blue. Those interested are encouraged to attend.
Who Should Attend:
- Designers who feel their blue-based designs appear 'too safe' or 'too conventional'
- Professionals who want to explain their color choices with greater persuasive power
- Creators and designers seeking to apply color psychology directly to their work
- Anyone aiming to reduce misalignment in perception with clients or team members

Speaker
Shigeru Shimada
Colorist / Training Instructor
Graduate of Sophia University’s Faculty of Comparative Culture (now Faculty of Liberal Arts). After working in the travel and web industries, he has served as a trainer and language instructor for 11 years. During his time in the web industry, he began studying color to offer clients color usage proposals that were not only emotionally resonant but also logically convincing. Since then, he has focused on internal aspects such as the psychological impact of color, rather than outward-focused personal color analysis, exploring base colors, color therapy, and color numerology. To achieve balanced, multi-perspective approaches, he has obtained qualifications from multiple organizations. He is one of the few male colorists active in the industry, frequently speaking at seminars and study groups.
