Disaster Preparedness Training Conducted Using Buildings Slated for Demolition in Redevelopment Area for a Resilient City

Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. conducted disaster prevention training from May 26 to 28, 2026, utilizing buildings scheduled for demolition within the Nihonbashi Muromachi 1-Chome District redevelopment area, with the cooperation of the local Urban Redevelopment Association.

Key Highlights of the Release: 1. Implementation of realistic disaster drills leveraging buildings slated for demolition within a redevelopment zone. 2. Participation of approximately 65 people, including fire departments, volunteer fire corps, and management staff, based on a 2021 agreement with the Tokyo Fire Department for practical training. 3. Enhancement of response capabilities and inter-organizational cooperation through realistic scenarios that are difficult to execute in occupied buildings.

In the event of large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, integrated response among building staff, tenants, government agencies, and local residents is crucial. While Mitsui Fudosan has long conducted drills with fire and police departments, this latest initiative utilized buildings to be demolished. Participants practiced door breaching using engine cutters, discharged powder fire extinguishers, and underwent smoke experience training.

Mitsui Fudosan emphasizes the importance of 'self-help' within the framework of 'self-help, mutual help, and public help.' The company remains committed to working with relevant organizations and the community to realize a safe, secure, and disaster-resilient city.

The Tokyo Fire Department commented that smooth cooperation with the local community and businesses is vital during emergencies and expressed a desire to continue such practical training to ensure the safety of the Nihonbashi district.
