Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) held an online event for seafarers on May 18th to commemorate the International Day for Women in Maritime, as established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This event has been held since last year with the goal of deepening understanding of the environment and challenges surrounding female seafarers and creating a workplace where they can work with peace of mind.

In this second edition, a total of 90 people participated, including seafarers, seafarer candidates, and representatives from crewing and ship management companies. Many male seafarers also attended, serving as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding of the environment and challenges surrounding female colleagues. During a talk session between seafarers, active discussions were held from various perspectives on issues actually experienced on board and how to request support.

During the event, a message of encouragement was delivered to the participants by the company's dedicated welfare officer. Furthermore, Kelly Takano, a member of the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association Japan (WISTA Japan) and head of the company's IT & Digital Strategy Unit, shared information about WISTA International's activities, expressing a commitment to continued collaboration to further promote the advancement of women.

This initiative is set as one of the fundamental principles of the 'Human Capital Vision' under the Phase 2 of the group management plan, 'BLUE ACTION 2035.' The company intends to continue promoting the success of female seafarers and to leverage diverse individualities, capabilities, and experiences to achieve sustainable corporate value enhancement.
